Mantra of the Day

“Writing is a solitary occupation. Family, friends, and society are the natural enemies of the writer. He must be alone, uninterrupted, and slightly savage if he is to sustain and complete an undertaking.” ~ Jessamyn West

This is my Mantra of the Day.

I will be alone from about 9 am until 3:25 pm, while my children are at school, and my husband is at work. I’ll have no excuse for not planting myself in my chair and writing. None, whatsoever.

The only thing, other than my first-thing-in-the-morning rounds, is that I might bake some brownies. Yes, this could be considered a flagrant attempt to bribe the muse. I need to tempt her to get her close enough to the keyboard/computer/workspace, so that I can handcuff her to the desk.

I've been doing a few things to "get in the mood to write." I took care of the other "must do's" that distract me when I'm near the computer. I've been mentally prepping myself that "today's the day to write." And, I engaged in a bit of pre-writing procrastination-- looking for a blogthings quiz that would fit this post.

And, after nearly an hour last night of taking quizzes (and IMing results to a batty friend), and about 20 minutes this morning... I found the perfect blogthing. It's below.

Your Love Quote

Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.

Now, there's an hour and a half until the Writing Blitzathon begins. I still have plenty of time to find some comfy sweats to wear and bake those brownies.

Mine is:
Life is one fool thing after another where as love is two fool things after each other.

It made me laugh! :-)

So Laura...how'd it go with the writing?

That's a good one, too, MG.

I finished the rough draft! Yay!
