More Dreams

Seems that my dream post generated a lot of batty conversation, so I thought, "Why not pull up that dream dictionary again and tell Amelia what some of those elements in her dream mean?" Plus, it would have the added benefit of getting her to stop whining that I didn't analyze her dream. I used the same Dream Dictionary I used yesterday.

Amelia's Dream

Job: To dream that you are looking for a job suggests that you are feeling unfulfilled and frustrated in a current phase of your life. If you are applying for several jobs in your dream, then it suggests that you need a clear direction and focused goal. To dream about your current job suggests that you need to work harder or be more effective at work. There may be something or some task that must be done at once. Or the dream may mean you are overworked or preoccupied with work. You need to make time for leisure and relaxation.

Motorcycle: To see or ride a motorcycle in your dream symbolizes your desire for freedom and need for adventure. You may be trying to escape from some situation or some other responsibility in your waking life. Alternatively, a motorcycle is symbolic of raw sexuality. Perhaps you are moving too fast.

Bumper sticker: To see a bumper sticker in your dream represents a message that you are trying to convey to the world. You want your opinion to be heard. Consider the exact message on the bumper sticker.

Maxi pad: To see a maxi pad in your dream indicates that you need to release some pent up anger or tension. It may also mean that some creative energy is being released or recognized. If you see Always Maxi Pads in your dream, then the dream may be telling you "always" is the answer to some question or comment.

Pizza: To see or eat pizza in your dream represents abundance, choices, and variety. It may also indicate that you are lacking or feeling deprived of something. Alternatively, a pizza may have similar significance to a circle.

Buffet: To eat too much food at a buffet in your dream indicates that some relationship is consuming your energies. Alternatively, it suggests that you are trying to work through some guilt.

Soda: To drink soda in your dream indicates that you need to be more bubbly or vivacious. Liven up! Alternatively, the dream suggests that you need to be refreshed or rejuvenated. If the soda is bitter, sour or off-tasting, then something or someone is preventing you from enjoying life to the fullest. Something is holding you back from fully expressing yourself.

Spilling: To dream that you spill something represents your carelessness and inconsideration of someone's feelings. You are not paying enough attention to those around you and as a result are offending and upsetting them. Alternatively, the dream may be a metaphor for something that you are dying to say, as in "spill it." To dream that you spill some food indicates that you need to eliminate that food from your diet. To dream that you spill a drink at a party symbolizes your social ineptness and awkwardness in a social situation.

So there we go. These are the key terms I picked from Amelia's dreams...go ahead! Start analyzing.

Dreams

I had a fairly involved dream last night, one that I actually remember because it was so...strange. Since a couple of my batty writer friends starred in the dream, I told that thread the dream and I've also told Sherry. Sherry is connecting it to my writing life, with the Aboriginal blind man in the dream representing my Muse, the 6 changed people are sub-genres. She's positive it's writing related. Which is fine by me.

In a nutshell, groups of people were drawn to the ocean, to sit upon the beach and stare out at the water. Many people would wade out into the water and submerge, and come out. Most of the time, nothing happened. But to 2 Bats, they went out, submerged and emerged from the water somehow intrinsically different. I'd wade out into the water, but not submerge, even in the one spot that seemed, somehow, likely. Watching over this all, on a high cliff, an old, blind man who appeared to be Aboriginal. He had cataracts over his eyes and he seemed to be looking far off into something. I went to the 2 Bats who'd been changed and told them about the spot in the water where I wanted to dunk myself, and they encouraged me to do it. So I did. I went under, face up towards the surface, watching how the sun reflected against the serene surface...down, down, down until something enveloped me, and suddenly, I was back on the beach, and in the company of the 5 others who'd been changed. We then went off to have a meeting, along with the old man (whom I was given to understand had once been host to one of the "aliens" like the ones we 6 now hosted...and that he was blind because his "alien" had died...and also given to understand that he was very, very old). In the house, I watched the water creep up along the junction of the floor and walls, spreading wet. Then the alarm clock sounded and I woke up.

I think the water in the house thing was because this house was literally on the beach, in the way of the tide.

Me? I'm looking up the key elements of the dream, and sharing what those elements mean. Dream Dictionary I used.

Water: To see water in your dream symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. To see calm, clear water in your dream means that you are in tune with your spirituality. It denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation.

Ocean: To see an ocean in your dream represents the state of your emotions and feelings. It is indicative of spiritual refreshment, tranquility and renewal. Alternatively, the dream means that you are feeling empowered and unhindered.  You have a positive outlook in life and are not limited by anything.

Man: To see an old man in your dream represents wisdom or forgiveness. The old man may be a archetypal figure who is offering guidance to some daily problem.

Aborigine: To see an Aborigine in your dream represents both your untamed, natural self and your pure, innocent side. You need to be more in touch with your intuition and inner forces.  It also suggests that you are being overindulgent or overly emotional. You may be harming yourself and jeopardizing your well-being due to your unrestraint.

Underwater: To dream that you are underwater suggests that you are being overcome with emotions and are in over your head regarding some situation. You need to gain greater control of your life. To dream that you are breathing underwater represents a retreat back into the womb. You want to return to a state where you were dependent and free from responsibilities. Perhaps you are feeling helpless, unable to fulfill your own needs and to care for yourself. Alternatively, breathing underwater is analogous to being submerged in your own emotions.

Friend: To see friends in your dream signify aspects of your personality that you have rejected, but are ready to incorporate and acknowledge. The relationships you have with those around you are important in learning about yourself. Alternatively, dreaming of a friend indicates positive news.

Six: Six is indicative of cooperation, balance, tranquility, perfection, warmth, union, marriage, family, and love. Your mental, emotional, and spiritual states are in harmony. It is also indicative of domestic bliss.

Aliens: To dream that you are an alien symbolizes the undiscovered part of yourself. Your manifestation as an alien may be your way of "escaping" from reality. Dreams of this nature also symbolize your outlandish ideas and your wild imagination.

It's too early in my morning to make conclusions or an analysis what this dream means based on all these definitions...but I think it's purty clear that this wasn't a bad dream or a dream with bad connotations, other than the underwater thing (which isn't necessarily bad or negative so much as it may just be a manifestation of life's stress).

I'll just leave you now with this link to Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.

Creative Writing

So my mother has a lovely friend who asks her when I have something new coming out. Well, the answer is, I have something I'm in the revision stages---it's with the MeaniePants Twins (Sherry and Angie), and they're wielding their Big Fat Red Pens on the poor manuscript. LOL. Looking forward to their comments, because these ladies are ALWAYS spot on with their comments and observations. After the revision round and a read-through to make sure I didn't make any stupid spelling errors, it's going to be submitted. Of course, I have to find a publisher who will actually publish it, but I'm hopeful and I realize I probably have a few knocks to take, but I'm on the Publication Path. :)

In the meantime, there's no law saying I can't exercise my creative writing muscle here on my blog occasionally, and it occurs I haven't done a writing prompt for a couple of weeks at least, so...here goes. Today's writing prompt is DREAMS. Take any situation you'd like and write it as if it was a dream you've had. *Gulp.* I only picked this because lately, I've been dreaming a lot, and having some really bizarre ones. Regrettably, dreams are ephemeral and fleeting, I'm going to make this up as I go along.

So, Kay, this one's for you.

Dreaming

She tossed and turned, unaware that her dream-time chasing cats destroyed the bed, pulling sheets off the corners and untucking the top sheet. One pillow hit the floor as Kayla fell deeper into the dream.

With nowhere to run or hide, all she could do was brazen out the situation. Kayla had to face the Big Ugly whether she wanted to or not. Her heart pounded, her breath caught in shallow hitches in her throat. The ringing in her ears was only rivaled by the sound of her blood whooshing through her head. It was now or never. Fight or die. Do or die. Stand tall or die.

Man, too much dying in those options. How bad could the Big Ugly be? Kayla struggled against her captors. Two enforcer types, one on each side of her, dragging her forward, despite the futile resistance she offered.

"Knock it off, lady," one of the enforcers growled. "We don't wanna hurt you."

Kayla mumbled something unintelligible and she managed to free one hand.
She promptly knocked over her plastic water glass that sat on her bedside table, and the noise it caused in reality translated into her dream.

BANG!

"Who's making all that noise?" someone demanded, somewhat irritated, but, oh my, what a marvelous voice. Deep, melodious, rich. "Did you get Kayla? Is she here?"

"Got her, Boss," the enforcer who still held onto her said. The other one had dissipated into the mist when she'd flung her arm, like he'd never existed in the first place.

"Bring her all the way inside."

Kayla twisted and shouted, resisting as best she could, but the dream enforcer was stronger than she was. In the distance, she heard a cat meowing at her, and in the dream, her chest felt heavy with dread as she was pulled forward inch, by painful inch.
The cat sat on Kayla's chest, staring at her through those yellow-brown eyes that reflected the light from the bedside table. The cat lifted a paw and swatted Kayla's chin.

"Come now, Spoofy," the man in the shadows chided, "there's no need for violence. Come on in, Kayla. We have a surprise for you."

As if on cue, a spotlight switched on, illuminating a large table. On that large table, the biggest apple pie Kayla had ever seen, with the crumb top filled with the yummy goodness of brown sugar and oats, all toasty.

She salivated. Her stomach growled. Fists clenched around invisible forks. Spoofy the enforcer let her go as musical laughter, which sounded suspiciously like George Takei's laughter, filled the room.

"Eat your fill. I made it just for you."

Kayla dove into the pie like she would a swimming pool.

The dream faded with the dawn. Kayla rolled onto her side and opened one eye. Kitty stared back at her, perplexed and annoyed as only a cat can manage. "Mrrrreow," the cat growl-purred.

"Oh, Kitty. How come you always spill the water at night? Silly kitty."

*End*

I think the first duty of all art, including fiction of any kind, is to entertain. That is to say, to hold interest. No matter how worthy the message of something, if it's dull, you're just not communicating.
~Poul Anderson
