Dreams

I had a fairly involved dream last night, one that I actually remember because it was so...strange. Since a couple of my batty writer friends starred in the dream, I told that thread the dream and I've also told Sherry. Sherry is connecting it to my writing life, with the Aboriginal blind man in the dream representing my Muse, the 6 changed people are sub-genres. She's positive it's writing related. Which is fine by me.

In a nutshell, groups of people were drawn to the ocean, to sit upon the beach and stare out at the water. Many people would wade out into the water and submerge, and come out. Most of the time, nothing happened. But to 2 Bats, they went out, submerged and emerged from the water somehow intrinsically different. I'd wade out into the water, but not submerge, even in the one spot that seemed, somehow, likely. Watching over this all, on a high cliff, an old, blind man who appeared to be Aboriginal. He had cataracts over his eyes and he seemed to be looking far off into something. I went to the 2 Bats who'd been changed and told them about the spot in the water where I wanted to dunk myself, and they encouraged me to do it. So I did. I went under, face up towards the surface, watching how the sun reflected against the serene surface...down, down, down until something enveloped me, and suddenly, I was back on the beach, and in the company of the 5 others who'd been changed. We then went off to have a meeting, along with the old man (whom I was given to understand had once been host to one of the "aliens" like the ones we 6 now hosted...and that he was blind because his "alien" had died...and also given to understand that he was very, very old). In the house, I watched the water creep up along the junction of the floor and walls, spreading wet. Then the alarm clock sounded and I woke up.

I think the water in the house thing was because this house was literally on the beach, in the way of the tide.

Me? I'm looking up the key elements of the dream, and sharing what those elements mean. Dream Dictionary I used.

Water: To see water in your dream symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. To see calm, clear water in your dream means that you are in tune with your spirituality. It denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation.

Ocean: To see an ocean in your dream represents the state of your emotions and feelings. It is indicative of spiritual refreshment, tranquility and renewal. Alternatively, the dream means that you are feeling empowered and unhindered.  You have a positive outlook in life and are not limited by anything.

Man: To see an old man in your dream represents wisdom or forgiveness. The old man may be a archetypal figure who is offering guidance to some daily problem.

Aborigine: To see an Aborigine in your dream represents both your untamed, natural self and your pure, innocent side. You need to be more in touch with your intuition and inner forces.  It also suggests that you are being overindulgent or overly emotional. You may be harming yourself and jeopardizing your well-being due to your unrestraint.

Underwater: To dream that you are underwater suggests that you are being overcome with emotions and are in over your head regarding some situation. You need to gain greater control of your life. To dream that you are breathing underwater represents a retreat back into the womb. You want to return to a state where you were dependent and free from responsibilities. Perhaps you are feeling helpless, unable to fulfill your own needs and to care for yourself. Alternatively, breathing underwater is analogous to being submerged in your own emotions.

Friend: To see friends in your dream signify aspects of your personality that you have rejected, but are ready to incorporate and acknowledge. The relationships you have with those around you are important in learning about yourself. Alternatively, dreaming of a friend indicates positive news.

Six: Six is indicative of cooperation, balance, tranquility, perfection, warmth, union, marriage, family, and love. Your mental, emotional, and spiritual states are in harmony. It is also indicative of domestic bliss.

Aliens: To dream that you are an alien symbolizes the undiscovered part of yourself. Your manifestation as an alien may be your way of "escaping" from reality. Dreams of this nature also symbolize your outlandish ideas and your wild imagination.

It's too early in my morning to make conclusions or an analysis what this dream means based on all these definitions...but I think it's purty clear that this wasn't a bad dream or a dream with bad connotations, other than the underwater thing (which isn't necessarily bad or negative so much as it may just be a manifestation of life's stress).

I'll just leave you now with this link to Dreams by Fleetwood Mac

Since Kate and I were in the dream, I'm going to suggest that maybe, just maybe, you're toying with the idea of self-publishing your stories and are now ready to submerge yourself in the alien world that is Amazon.com (hence the Aborigine). I say go for it! :)

Thanks, Pam. That's a great interpretation.

Whenever I dream about water it usually means I have to pee. Obviously I'm not as intuitive and imaginative as you are :)

ROTFLMAO, Wendy. Since I had this dream right before I woke up, that's a very likely scenario.

*Howling with laughter...

I dreamed last night that I got a job in a different town that would've made it hard to get the kids to school and back, that I had to ride a Vespa to get there, that I tried to put a bumper sticker on my van and ended up, somehow, putting a maxi pad on it instead, and then got invited to a free lunch at a pizza buffet where there was no pizza but there were a billion different kinds of soda. I spilled the Dr. Pepper.

There. Analyze THAT.

Sorry, I fell off my chair laughing at the notion of you riding around with a maxi pad on your bumper instead of a bumper sticker, Amelia. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Did it have wings?

I like Tori's interpretation and wonder if she could be right. On the other hand, you could be dreaming of that trip to Australia to meet us. You'd have to get there by sea (or over sea. Could be some wishful thinking, and that's just from my end.

Like the notion of visiting Australia, V. It's still on my To Do List.

No wings, Laura. In the dream, I had just cleaned off a perfect spot on the back of my van with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, then instead of grabbing the bumper sticker, somehow I wound up with a (freaking enormous) maxi pad and stuck it on there anyway. It seemed a bit weird at the time. Then again, my real, non-dreaming van has one of those magnetic "support" ribbons that says SUPPORT ZOMBIES and is black with red splatters, so... but still, no maxi pads.

I took a nap today and dreamed that I was part of a crack team who were on assignment to kidnap a talking orange parrot from Iran so we could put it on TV. There was Dr. Pepper in that dream, too.

Possibly I am on drugs of some kind. Or need to be...
